HOWDEN MINSTER

Howden Minster (St Peter and St Paul) is a Grade I listed church in the heart of Howden. The operational minster church is attached to the historic ruins of the 13th and 14th century chancel and chapter house. The Minster hosts regular worship services, christenings, weddings and funerals, and provides a welcoming space for a wide range of community activities and events.

Free music concerts take place at Howden Minster throughout the year, organised by Howdenshire Music. Lunchtime concerts, which are free-of-charge to attend, are held on the third Thursday of every month, featuring professional classical musicians. Also look out for special one-off concerts, with performances from internationally renowned musicians!

During the summer months, Howden Minster also hosts a summer series of organ recitals, which take place every Monday at 1pm. Admission is free of charge, and every recital is followed by refreshments and homemade cakes.

Regular activities at the Minster also include bell ringing, choir, mid-week Communion and morning worship. For younger visitors, Messy Church takes place from January – April and September – November, every third Sunday at 3pm.

While the Minster is open daily, if you are traveling from out of town to visit please contact Howden Minster beforehand as it may be closed to visitors if there is an event taking place. The exterior of the ruins (English Heritage site) can be visited at any time.
