The Spirit Specialist was opened in November 2020 by Ben Bowers, who had previously spent over 25 years working in the spirits industry with some of the biggest drinks companies in the world.
Ben launched his own business in an effort to help drinkers discover some of the most exciting spirits in the world that aren’t found on supermarket or mainstream shelves. After just a year of trading, The Spirit Specialist was voted ‘Independent Spirits Retailer of the Year’ at the People’s Choice Spirits Awards, beating several well-established drinks stores - not a bad effort considering the shop is staffed by Ben alone, with occasional help from his wife and three young children.
Every single product on the shelf has been tasted and assessed beforehand – you can even watch review videos on The Spirit Specialist YouTube channel - so you can be assured that what you are buying is not just great tasting but also great value for money. And nearly every bottle can be sampled in-store, so you can be even more confident of getting exactly what you are looking for.
For the home bartender, The Spirit Specialist offers a range of cocktail ingredients, barware and glassware to help you entertain friends and family at home.
Hand-picked sample selection boxes – decanted in-store – are ideal gifting solutions for those looking to explore new flavours without risking the outlay on a full-size bottle. And regular tasting events – both in person and online – provide deeper insights into brands and/or categories, and are both entertaining and educational sessions to enjoy and expand your personal spirits knowledge.
